SUFFOLK OAK TRESTLE TABLE by Suffolk Chair Maker, Jim Parsons.

The Merchant’s Table commissioned Jim Parsons to create an exclusive Suffolk Oak and Ash Trestle Table and Legs, made with local wood using historic hand-crafted techniques. The desire was to create a flexible table for use within the heart of a home - a dining table; a desk; a display table.

Two table tops of the same size and 2 x pairs of trestle legs can be placed together to form a square table. (2 x Table Top 1 would make a 140cm square table; 2 x Table Top 2 would make a 160cm square table; 2 x Table Top 3 would make a 180cm square table.)

Jim Parsons is a Suffolk woodworker who was born in Snape and has lived along the Suffolk coast all his life. He handcrafts beautiful furniture from locally sourced woods and can identify where each tree grew.

The Trestle Table Top is designed to fit with the Suffolk Ash Cupid Trestle Legs, or can be bought as a separate table top for you to pair with your own legs.

Solid Suffolk Oak Table Top is constructed of three boards to ensure a stable, level surface and the whole top is secured simply and very effectively with only copper nails, no glue.

Table Table Top Size: No.1: 140cm x 70cm

Table Table Top Size: No. 2: 160cm x 80cm (This size is on display in our Woodbridge shop.)

Table Table Top Size: No. 3: 180cm x 90cm

The design works equally well within a contemporary or rustic home.

The table tops are made from a majestic Oak which fell in Polsted and the legs are Ash from Thorington. The top is constructed from seasoned Oak boards, with a subtle tactile ripple, held together with Oak braces secured purely with copper nails and rivets.

Jim uses a variety of traditional techniques almost all involving hand tools. Curved components are steam bent, legs spokeshaved and the back spindles made using rotary planes. He shapes the seat by hand with a special plane which he made for the purpose.

SOLID SUFFOLK ASH CUPID TRESTLE LEGS The ash legs are shaped by hand with a spoke shave. The bow of each trestle leg is steam bent and secured with a spoke and wedge.

The legs are designed to fit with each of the optional size table tops or sold separately for you to use with a top of your own.

The design works equally well within a contemporary or rustic home.

Trestle Legs Size:  56cm x 70cm
