£168

Quantity:
Each knife is hand forged by Tobias of Butley Creek Forge, with hammer and traditional techniques using British Sheffield steel, and handled with 200 year old Suffolk grown oak.
The current small batch comes from a select number of boards sourced directly from Dylan Pym in Polstead, Suffolk, who felled the tree on the 22nd 07, 2005. the tree had been dead standing for 20 years, sadly due to an attack of procession moth.

Butley creek Forge is set deep in the East Anglian countryside, surrounded by fields woodland and marsh. The creek itself from a bird's eye view is what became their symbol. Consisting of two friends who had a vision, from inside an old tin roof chicken shed, Alexander and Tobias set out to create the finest handmade kitchen utensils. Made from locally sourced materials and ancient processes. Constantly learning and pushing themselves in craft and quality, The Creek Classic was born. Each knife goes through the exacting processes under watchful eyes and skilled hands of these two ambitious craftsmen.

FAQ

Sharpening?
These knives will hold an edge for a lot longer than most shop bought knives and due to the angle of the bevel the cutting resistance is minimal even when dull.
We strongly advise against any ‘pull through’ sharpening systems as they are way too aggressive for a fine edge.
However, a quick brush over a ceramic honing rod will see your knife sharp again.
Use a shallow angle and delicate strokes, the weight of the knife should do.
If you’re not that confident using a hone, Butley creek forge offer a sharpening service that shouldn’t take more than a few minutes, (this usually comes with a quick workshop tour)

Will it rust?
The knives are made from a high carbon stainless steel. They are incredibly corrosion resistant so shouldn’t rust, but due to the carbon there is a slight possibility your blade will develop a patina over time. That's why they call it stainless and not stainproof

Can I put it in the dishwasher?
Due to the handmade nature and local materials, the dishwasher is an absolute no no.
The wooden handle will absorb moisture, and the incredible heat and salts in dishwashers are very aggressive. However, if an unsuspecting family member or friend does mistakenly put your knife in the dishwasher, you can bring it to us and get a valet service to see your knife back in pristine condition.
We also recommend not leaving the knife submerged in water for any length of time,
washing/wiping just the blade and drying it after use is usually sufficient.

Would oil on the handle be a good idea?
Most wooden objects have a finish or coating and these handles are no different, however due to their regular contact with human hands, food and possible soapy water the finish can be worn away. A light coat of oil maybe once a year wouldn't go amiss. We recommend Odies oil (this is what we use) but it's quite expensive so most wood finishing oils such as tung oil or Raw linseed oil is fine, try not to use any perishable oils like olive oil or seed oils as these can spoil over time, leaving your wood worse than before. If in doubt, get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
