Artist maker Martin Huxford creates sculptural plasterwork inspired by art and nature.
Living on the Sussex coast and with a studio nearby in the South Downs, Martin’s work champions the importance of re-establishing our connection with nature, of returning it to the heart of our world. His abstract designs embody the transformative power and beauty of the handmade and the organic.
His work is a celebration of nature’s energy and opulent beauty, and takes us to a world of surrealist shell forms, exuberant, exaggerated giant leaf-like shapes and simplified architectural flowers.
Working primarily in raw plaster, Martin has developed innovative new techniques to achieve his richly textured, animated sculptural forms.

Capturing my vision and shaping the fluid organic form, as plaster moves from liquid to solid, becomes an engrossing almost contemplative process.”
