Jacob Marks
Jacob Marks is a South London based designer whose work explores the expressive potential of overlooked natural materials. Through furniture, objects and material-led projects, he reimagines resources that are often disregarded, transforming them into distinctive contemporary works that reveal both their beauty and their ecological value.
Research sits at the heart of his practice. Jacob investigates the landscapes from which materials are harvested and considers how design can respond to complex social and environmental questions. His projects have explored the revival of Britain’s pine resin industry as a renewable, carbon-negative alternative to plastic; the role of thoughtful timber selection in supporting mixed native woodlands; and how innovation can help sustain traditional coppicing crafts for future generations.
By combining material experimentation with a deep understanding of landscape and craft, Jacob creates work that is both visually striking and thought-provoking, contemporary pieces that carry the stories of the environments and traditions from which they emerge.
