Bonfield Block-Printers
Bonfield Block-Printers, is the brilliantly inspired collaboration of artists Cameron Short & Janet Tristram. Home is a crooked Georgian house, complete with its own shop, in a corner of West Dorset, England.
Bonfield’s work is rooted in their love of the countryside and sea, rural life - its rhythms and traditional skills - and the enchanting folklore of trees, plants and animals. The illustrations are often created in repeat and have a strong narrative element.
Their practice is labour-intensive: everything takes time. They celebrate slowness. In an age obsessed with speed, they are something of an anomaly, but regard this as their strength. Realising something at a slower pace, more organically, enables an artist to make adjustments or even change the direction of travel should a better idea reveal itself - resulting in more luminous work.
